Brisbane City Council, in association with the Brisbane Jazz Club, proudly presents the 2008 program for:

TALKIN' JAZZ

Brisbane's most fun and exciting workshop series for high school-aged jazz musicians enters its third successful year!

With the wonderful support of the Brisbane City Council, the Brisbane Jazz Club (Brisbane's home of jazz) is very excited to be hosting Talkin' Jazz for its third year. We've got some changes in store (see below for info on our orientation session this weekend!) that we think will really make this already great program an even more ideal environment for young jazzers to foster their creativity, meet like-minded individuals, form their own groups and learn from the best!

Talkin' Jazz is about providing young jazz musicians with an entry point into Brisbane's vibrant jazz community. The program is primarily aimed at encouraging enthusiasm, appreciation for the art-form and a love of getting together and playing this great music. There are also educational elements to the program which will help the students discover the tools they need to become great musicians and members of the jazz community. We look forward to welcoming you all into the BJC family!

On the third Saturday of each month, the BJC fills with jazz-loving high school students and a Talkin' Jazz Jam Session takes place.  Each month, we have a different special guest mentor, selected from among a core group of past TJ students' favourites. These exceptional performers and educators host an interactive discussion with the students about the joys of playing jazz music, followed by a hands-on workshop and jam session guaranteed to be full of youthful energy and fun!

2. Talkin' Jazz PERFORMANCE INTENSIVE

In the June-July school holidays (Mon 30 June - Sunday 13 July) the Talkin' Jazz Performance Intensive (TJPI) will take place at the Brisbane Jazz Club.  The TJ08 Creative Director (TBA - watch this space!) will lead the participants through rehearsals, including master-classes from professional musicians. The end goal is a performance by the TJPI intensive participants, putting on their own high profile event at the Brisbane Jazz Club, joined by a special guest star and some of their mentors from throughout the year to play the music they've worked on with the Creative Director.

TALKIN' JAZZ takes place @
